The GAO recently released a report on the state of assistive technology in the public school system. Tools such as adapted writing aids, calculators, and digital reading supports enable students with disabilities to engage more effectively in classroom learning. However, districts report obstacles including gaps in educator awareness, difficulty keeping up with new tools, limited professional development time, staffing shortages, technology infrastructure challenges, and tight budgets.
