Description
Effective family engagement practices have been shown to positively impact educators, families, and learners. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) require educators engage families in meaningful ways. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory suggests that layers of educators and education services impact the learner’s experience and families’ advocacy for their children. Explore the CITES Family Engagement practices as a critical element of the CITES framework, to eliminate barriers for learners, especially those with disabilities using assistive technologies. The session will cover engaging families in leadership, infrastructure, teaching, learning, and assessment, and are essential for authentic and effective family engagement.
