Description
In 2020, North Carolina was selected as one of seven states to participate in CAST’s National Center on Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) State Cohort Program through the 2024 academic year. As a result of that opportunity, five educational leaders throughout the state came together to develop a comprehensive unit plan titled #A11Y Exceptional Children’s Summer Institute on Accessibility which is being published in the latest issue of the Journal of Technology-Integrated Lessons and Teaching. Along with the article that will be available under the creative commons licensing, we are building a Canvas course that can be used by educators at all levels to learn to design with empathy and to craft accessible and inclusive learning experiences. The unit plan was designed to introduce P-16+ administrators and educators to the rationale for creating accessible and inclusive learning experiences along with considerations for designing with empathy.
