Description

Examine the various aspects of supporting students with disabilities in online learning programs. Understand policies related to students with disabilities and the roles of administrators, parents, teachers and students including specific needs of students with 504 and Individual Education Plans as related to assistive technologies and accessible educational materials. Participants will explore resources developed by a national cohort of experienced online learning leaders to support inclusive technology practices including educator guides to support AT/AEM and Accommodations, IEP/504 plans and professional learning. Developed with funding from the Office of Special Education Programs, the Center on Inclusive Technology & Education Systems (CITES) researched the inclusive practices of five virtual school models and convened an advisory board of national online learning experts and results include a research summary and resources for administrators. The goal of CITES is to empower school districts to create and sustain inclusive technology systems that serve each student, including students with disabilities in online programs.

 Questions to be considered include:

  • How are IEP/504 plans being addressed for students in blended and online programs?
  • What considerations related to AEM and AT should be considered for students participating in learning opportunities online ?
  • To what extent are CITES products and services applicable and useful in blended and full time online learning environments?
